Where is it?
It extends from between the front wheels to above the front wing.
What does it do?
It supports the front wing and influences air flowing around and beneath the chassis. It also forms part of the structure that absorbs a frontal impact.
What to watch in an update
Changes to the tip or underside can alter the path of air flowing rearwards. Even small changes matter in combination with nearby parts.
This guide explains the basic role. The FIA submission gives the stated aim of each individual update.
